SFD Volunteers Battle House Fire

On Tuesday, March 24th at 6:09 PM, the volunteer members of the Seaford Fire Department were alerted for a house fire at 2594 Irene Lane in south Seaford. At the time of alarm, Chief of Department Paul Lochner (6800) and the crew of Ladder 683 under the command of Captain Mike Bellissimo were taking up from a mutual aid call to the Wantagh FD for a working house fire in Wantagh Woods. Engine 682 responded 1st due under the command of FF Steve Hochman who reported smoke showing upon arrival. 6800 and 683 arrived within minutes of 682 and Chief Lochner assumed command. The family had left the home about 30 minutes prior to the alarm. Heavy fire was discovered in the attic of a 2 story hi-ranch and a Signal 10 was transmitted, bringing Massapequa Ladder 632 in as the FAST truck. Lt. Bova and Ex-Chief Meyer performed vertical ventilation of the roof as the crews from 682 and 683 began to extinguish the fire and open the ceilings. The fire was quickly brought under control and the Nassau County Fire Marshal's office responded to determine the cause. No injuries were reported and all units were in service by 7:45 PM.

Units operating were; Seaford Chief 6800, Engines 682 and 683, Ladder 683, Heavy Rescue 687 and Ambulance 685. Mutual aid was provided by Massapequa Fire Department who responded with Chiefs 6300 and 6302 and West End Ladder 632.
