Seaford Fire Department Receives NY State Grants
The Seaford Fire Department recently received three grants from New York State through the efforts of State Senator Charles Fuschillo and Assemblyman Dave McDonough. A $5,400 grant was used to purchase a Bullex fire extinguisher trainer that will be used to train the public as well as new firefighters on how to use a portable fire extinguisher. The 2nd grant totaling $10,000 enabled the Fire District to purchase five Automatic External Defibrillators (AED’s). The AED’s were issued to some of the Department’s most active AMT’s and EMT’s who respond directly to the scene of an ambulance call and will be used on cardiac arrest patients. It has been proven that early defibrillation is key to the successful resuscitation of cardiac arrest victims. The final grant totaling $3,200 was used to purchase (40) pair of structural firefighting gloves that provide Seafords’ firefighters with additional safety and dexterity features.
The total for the three grants came to $18,600. These grants enabled the Seaford Fire District to acquire valuable equipment that it might not have otherwise been able to purchase.
